The primary focus is to deliver extremely high quality eye care. We always believe that vision & sight are such things that you can never say that there are children of lesser god. There has to be one standard of care to everybody and every patient should be able to see very well”

A brief history

By 2004 the glaucoma unit of Tilganga institute of Ophthalomology was already providing services beyond basic glaucoma care to patients, such as community screening, ophthalmic assistant training, patient education and public awareness activities. This created a need to establish a separate wing for glaucoma service in Tilganga institute of Ophthalomology to conduct these services in an extended and regular basis to address the needs of the country.

Kay Walls and the Nepal Glaucoma Eye Clinic Association of Australia
Ms. Kay Walls, a glaucoma patient from Australia inaugurated the glaucoma clinic on November 18th 2006. Ms. Kay Walls visited Tilganga institute of Ophthalomology in 2004. This was her first visit to Nepal. Being a glaucoma patient, she understood the need to provide care for glaucoma patients in Nepal. After she returned to Australia, she founded the Nepal Glaucoma Eye Clinic Association in Melbourne. She was determined to raise money to establish this clinic in Nepal. Being an art collector, she was able to auction paintings and with the help of friends was able to fundraise to build the clinic.
She still fundraises to support activities of the clinic.

Rotary Clubs of Belgium and Kathmandu- mid town have worked together to raise money to purchase some of the equipment for the clinic.
