The Oculoplastic & Lacrimal Clinic
The Orbit, Plastic and Lacrimal (OPAL) Clinic
The Orbit, plastic and lacrimal clinic in Tilganga institute of Ophthalomology was launched in the beginning of 2004 as a new sub-specialty. Maintaining vision by protection of an eye ball and the proper function of the orbital adenexa, as well as cosmesis to functioning eye and orbit, is its main function.
The need of the OPAL service to patients with disfiguration of eye lids and orbit, vision threatening ocular condition and ocular and orbital tumors is increasing day by day. OPAL clinic aims to obtain satisfactory cosmesis, good function and adequate protection to the eyes of the patients. Orbital surgery at TIO is now becoming very busy and the number of patients being treated and operated has increased tremendously.

About oculoplastic surgery
Oculoplastic surgery is specialised plastic surgery around the eyelids and face. It is also called oculo-facial surgery as the eyelids are continuous with the forehead, cheeks, and deals with the related tear system (lacrimal) and orbits (deeper structures surrounding the eyeball).
Surgery is primarily for abnormalities of the eyelids and their surrounding tissues, including their position and contour, in order to maintain, restore or improve function and appearance.
The clinic also undertakes aesthetic treatments and surgery on normal eyelids and surrounding tissues to improve or change their perceived beauty, including blepharoplasty and Botulinum Toxin injection.
