Plastic surgery is the branch of medicine concerned with reshaping or reconstructing certain features of the human body. The Oculoplastics Service at Tilganga Eye Center deals with reshaping the area in and around the eye. Oculoplastic surgery is often performed to correct or treat a medical condition or an injury. It is also done for cosmetic purposes. The Oculoplastic Service is concerned specifically with the eyelids, the orbit (the bone around the eye-Eye socket), and the lacrimal system (the tear duct system). The Ophthalmic plastic and reconstructive surgery refers to the cosmetic or functional restoration of the areas around the eye and face.
The Orbital and Ophthalmic Plastic Surgery Service In Tilganga institute of Ophthalomology is led by Dr Rohit Saiju MD, from the beginning of 2004, who is a fellowship trained oculoplastic and reconstructive surgeon. The eyelids and structures around the eye are critical for vision. Injuries, congenital defects, aging changes and tumors affecting the eyelids as well as the tissues and bones surrounding the eyes can cause pain, eye damage, vision loss and disfigurement. In addition, changes in the eye's appearance can decrease one's ability to interact in social settings and in the workplace. And, the tragic loss of an eye because of injury or disease can decrease one's confidence and impair self-image
We perform over 500 oculoplastic procedures annually. Our aim is to provide the highest standard of care for all patients with these disorders.
